Ferry Travel Between Athens/Mykonos.Santorini

I'm trying to figure out the most economical yet time efficient way to get to these islands. Distance - is it equally as far from Athens to Mykonos as it is from Mykonos to Santorini? I first thought I'd take the ferry from Athens to Mykonos but it appears to be a 6 hr ferry ride but a 45 min flight. Do the ferry's stop at different islands along the route? I only have two days in Mykonos. I don't see that there are flights from Mykonos to Santorini - so how long of a ferry ride is it to Santorini? Please also let me know which ferry service you recommend. I'm going in Aug. so I think I should probably have these reserved in advance - right?

Check the Hellenic Seaways website for the schedules for their Highspeed Ferry, it shouldn't take as long as a regular car ferry. You can also take a ferry from the port of Rafina instead of from Piraeus.

There is a direct flight from Mykonos to Santorini on www.skyexpress.gr but the Hellenic Seaways FlyingCat 4 makes the trip in about 2.5 hours. http://www.ferries.gr/hfd/ Take note of the no-sail date of Aug. 20 for the FC4. The FC4 is the only direct ferry but you can get between Mykonos and Santorini by taking a morning ferry to either Naxos or Paros to catch the Blue Star "Paros" as it stops on its way to Santorini, arriving there around 3:30 PM. It's a good idea to reserve the highspeeds in advance in August.

Thank you for your insight I will get this information. What do you suggest taking from Athens to Mykonos - the same ferry line? How long of a trip is it on the high-speed?

Look on the ferry websites http://www.hellenicseaways.gr/index.asp?a_id=209, www.openseas.gr and www.gtp.gr. Your options will be displayed there.

This hasn't been very easy. I don't see Hellenic going from Mykonos to Santorini? Is it just me or what? Which ferry line will get me to Santorni from Mykonos the fastest?

Hellenic Seaways does go between Santorini and Mykonos.

Take note of the no-sail dates.

I have had similar issues with the ferry schedules and I am leaving in June.

I called a travel agency in Greece and I also called Hellenic Seaways directly. I was told their June schedule (and therefore I am also assuming later months) has not been published yet. I think some of the schedules out there for Hellenic are most likely going to be the departure times, but you can't actually buy tickets for those ferries yet.

SeaJet does seem to have published schedules and SkyExpress does as well.

I am still figuring this out as well, but I figured I would at least share what I know. Good luck! I need it too!

Imavolio, when you see all those empty seats on the ferries in June, you will wonder why you worried so much. Still, for peace of mind, buy your tickets in advance. :-)

Taller_is_better, go ahead with your prebooking. August is a different matter.

Hellenic was having techinical problem thus the reason I couldn't book my tickets online. They wrote me to say they were good to go now so you should be able to book. Watch for booking with travel agencies. Sometimes their delivery charges are more depending on where you are staying in Athens and also that they don't have a minimun $$ requirement. One was going to charge me an extra 50 euro because it was just under $400 euros. I finally just went with Greeka.com and booked my tickets. This website has been so wonderful - thanks to everyone for all your input!
