Ferry to Capri with a car

Hi, everyone!
We are going to Capri for a week in the begining of June. We'll be driving from Cannes, France to Naples. Who knows if we can take our car with us to Capri or we have to leave a car somewhere in Naples like airport or port parking? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if you can bring it or not (I would guess no but not sure) BUT I would not recommend it if you could. There are so many tourists and the roads are so small and many places you can only get to by walking.

I would park in Naples and enjoy your time on the island.

You cannot take your car to Capri. You'll have to leave it at the port in Naples. We went to Capri from Sorrento and I researched the facilities there (we ended up leaving it with our b&b hosts).

Thank you for this information. Maybe you are right. But where in Naples we can park our car for a week?

This website has a bunch of car parks listed for Naples and Sorrento.

You could probably park at the airport as well.

Thank you very much for a link. I think it's a good idea to leave a car in Naples. Do you know by any chance how much they charge by a day? Thank you.

No idea...we didn't have a car on our trip.

I'm sure somebody will chime in with an answer.

>Do you know by any chance how much they charge by a day?<

I can't recall the exact amount - but it was quite expensive. I'd caution that it should be in a secure garage and not out on an open lot (perhaps that's why it's expensive) and this is especially true of Naples.

Hi - It doesn't make much sense to pay to park a car for a week. Why not drop it and book another for when you leave?

Steve

Hi, Steve! We were thinking to drop the car in Naples but we have to pay a lot of money for this. We will rent a car in Munich, then we are going to French Riviera and then to Capri. The company we use to rent a car is EuroCar. We pay for 2 weeks $560 and we have to pay another $500 just to drop a car. It's too much. We have to find a place to park in Naples or Sorrento.

Have you thought of taking the train from Cannes to Ventimiglia/San Remo and hiring a car from there?

That way you would avoid the $500 drop-off charge in Naples ...

There is a secure garage in the cliffside at Sorrento near the port.

Not cheap - but probably the safest option.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Hi V,

>We will rent a car in Munich, then we are going to French Riviera and then to Capri.

You will have to pay a large drop off fee unless yuo return the car in Germany.

What is your entire itinerary?

It might be better for you to take some trains.
