Ferry to Capri

Any info on ferry service Sorrento to Capri
including,duration,cost and reservations
necessary? Who to contact for bookings?

If I remember correctly the hydrofoil runs fairly frequently. Maybe once an hour - probably depends on the time of year. It takes about 45mins. to get there, and you can buy your tickets right at the marina. We bought them just before we boarded the boat. I don't know what they cost.

Elsa

According to a 2000 tourbook I am looking at, there are boats almost hourly from Sorrento for L 9000 which
is a 40 min ride, or L 13,000 for a 20 min jet-boat ride. Nothing mentioned about reservations.
When we were last there, the seas were too rough and no boat for one or two days.

Diane, Elsa is correct about the frequency of the hydrofoils. They take about 30 minutes (the ferry takes about an hour). The hotel I stayed in had the schedules posted; if your hotel does not it's a quick trip to the port (below the town of Sorrento) on the little orange bus to check out the schedules. The bus to the port stops in the main square. You buy the bus tickets in the bars either to go to the port or for the Amalfi coast bus (if you want a round trip you ask for 2 tickets).

It's a bit confusing at the port since there aren't many signs and boats anchor both "inside" and "outside" the jetty wall. The person selling the tickets will mention either of these words and you find your boat accordingly. Our hydrofoil came in "inside" the port. Don't worry if you don't see a boat when you get there...they'll arrive. Also, be sure to ask which boat goes where (I made sure I asked 3 different people) including the person taking the ticket at the top of the gangway. Boats go to Naples as well as Capri (and probably other places as well) so it's easy to get on the wrong boat (there's no signs).

Any questions send an email.
Adrienne

Diane, Forgot you asked for the price. We paid 84,000 Lire for round-trip tickets for 3 people this April, that's about $40USD given the current exchange rate. Also wanted to mention one other thing. Be sure to see the San Michelle church in Anacapri. It has a Majolica tile floor showing the garden of Eden and is just lovely. When you get to Anacapri follow the signs for the church.
Adrienne
