Ferry tickets: Buying online?

HI

I checked out www.openseas.gr and saw that ferry tickets for July 2008 are now available. I already booked hotels on Naxos and Santorini, and I am wondering if I Should buy ferry tickets online now, or just wait to get the ferry tickets once I am in Greece.

Thank you!

Depends on the ferry. If you want to take the highspeed then book now. If you want to take the slower Blue Star or other regular car ferry then you can just wait. You can either buy them as you go or when you first arrive at the Athens Airport go into the Amphitrion Holidays travel office in the Main Hall and buy them all then and there.

After reading other posts I understand that its OK to wait until arrival to purchase ferry tickets for "off season" dates like late-September. Interested in the high-speed from Crete to Santorini. Brotherleelove - is my understanding correct? Thanks!

Brotherleelove: Does it matter which travel agencies I buy ferry tickets from for Blue Star. Any price differences?

Cindyj-

Yes, you can wait. Be advised that the no-sail dates for the run to Crete in September are the 3rd and the 17th.

Vacation2008-

Prices will be the same regardless of the travel agent. You will be charged a very small fee, about 1/2 euro or less, if I remember correctly.

I travel in the Greek Islands in May/Jun and September, and have never prebooked a ferry - ever. Outside high season, the only dates to look out for are Greek hoidays like Easter and Pentacost - and maybe the May student weekends on Mykonos.

...holidays.

Do you think the travel agents offices at the airport close early? We are arriving in Athens at 17:40 (in September). Are they open in the evenings and the weekends?

Thank you!

I believe the airport travel agents are open 24/7.

I believe so too, but if they do close it will be much later than 17:40.

Here is a page from the Amphitrion Holidays website: http://www.amphitrion.gr/pub/Categor...n&catid=28

They are, indeed, open 24/7. :-)

Thank you! I will look to their office when we arrive in Athens!
