??? ferry Santorini to Naxos

My husband and I will be in Santorini for 3 nights and then will travel to Naxos for 6 night. on Sept 9. The Blue Star leaves Santorini at 16:00 and arrives in Naxos at 18:00. We would like to arrive in Naxos earlier than this. The only other option is the fast ferry , the Sea Jet that leaves Santorini at 12:15 and arrives at 13.45. I have not read great things about the fast ferry. I am afraid that if I go ahead and book the fast ferry and it gets cancelled, then the Blue Star will be booked. How reliable is the fast ferry? I feel that after 3 nights, we will have run out of things to do on Santorini and might be ready to go on to Naxos. I would love to hear any feedback on the fast ferry.

Thank you

You don't have to worry about the Blue Star being full. It's huge and will easily take every passenger departing from Santorini that day. September is well-past the busy season.

I've never taken the Sea Jets ferry but I have taken other similar highspeed cats. They bob in the water like corks if the sea is rough, but the trip to Naxos will be short enough that it shouldn't be a problem unless there are uncharacteristically strong winds and high seas. Unfortunately the Sea Jet does have a reputation for unreliability.

You do also have the option of taking the Anek Lines large car ferry from Santorini, departing at 8:50am. It takes longer than the highspeed because it makes several stops along the way but will get you there at 2:25pm.

Thank you. I have heard that they can be unreliable and my husband can get a little seasick. If it is cancelled, I assume that my money would be refunded?

I can't speak from experience, but logic suggests that is the correct assumption.

I just did this, the other direction from Naxos to Santorini. We took Blue Star, big ship, no seasickness. There is also the high speed Hellenic Seaways ferry which I believe leaves earlier, and goes faster, but we felt Blue Star was fast enough, and less expensive anyway. We loved Santorini, ended up staying 4 nights instead of 3. Have a great time! We just bought our ferry tickets at a travel agent in Greece the day before, no problem but this was early June. And in Naxos you can buy a tour for a day trip to Mikonos and Delos, wish I had had time for that too!

The only real advantage of Superjet is that you arrive on Naxos earlier in the day. The trip is so short that it makes little difference which you use.

I suggest that you wait until you get to Santorini and book your tickets then. If Superjet is cancelled (unlikely) go back to the agent where you bought the tickets and exchange them for Blue Star tickets (you will get a refund, as Blue Star tickets are cheaper). Alternatively, just wait for Blue Star, which will give you great views of Santorini as it sails out of the caldera. :-)

Blue Star is never full when it leaves Santorini, even in high season - most passengers board at Naxos and Paros for the remainder of it's trip to Piraeus. :-)
