ferry or hydrofoil to Capri from Positano

Hi,

My family and I will stay in Positano during mid April. We plan for 1 day trip to Capri.
Can anyone pls suggest if there're ferry or hydrofoil leave from Positano.
I searched from capri.net and capri.com, only find Sorrento-Capri schedule.
Would it be crowded during that period?
Do we hv to book in advance?
Thanks.

Some ferry services won't start running until summer (mid-June). Positano doesn't have as much service because their port is small. I don't think hydrofoils ever stop there. It may be that you need to go to Amalfi to catch transport to Capri. Return ferries don't run late (not even in summer) so be sure you buy a return ticket and don't miss the last ferry back (probably around 5 pm in April).

bungkee,

My experience was in mid-Sept, so a different ferry/hydrofoil schedule.

I had been warned by Fodorites to book res in advance for the trip (boat) from Positano to Capri and I was so glad I did! The early (9am something) boat was sold out and people who had notplanned ahead, trying to do a "day trip" to Capri, had to wait clear until the next boat at 11:30 am = shor tday trip for them! It was a fairly large boat and took about 45 min.

I traveled back a couple days later on the hydrofoil from Marina Grande to Sorrento. Only problem - the hydrofoil never showed. I waited an hour and a half while I watched several car ferries and other boats depart, but no hydrofoil.

When my hydrofoil finally departed, we had a very rough ride! I don't get sea sick, but it was pretty scary due to rough seas. The wings of the hydrofoil kept hitting the water and people were just about knocked out of their seats.

It I were to do it again, I would just take the large ferry.....

The services may have still been on summer schedules when Dayle used them as that tends to be from mid-June to mid-September. Last summer, some ferry services weren't funded and it seemed the summer schedule was shortened.

Thank you so much, now we know.
Will avoid hydrofoil as per your advice.
