Ferry Livorno to Elba Island??
Greetings all-
We are getting closer to our trip to Austria and Italy beginning mid May this year. Dear spouse and I will be taking a train from Vienna to Italy then on to Elba (ferry that is). Has anyone taken a ferry from Livorna to Elba? It appears it may be a more direct way vs taking a train farther south... If anyone can shed any light on this idea I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you! Janellebc |
There are no ferries from Livorno to Elba. You need to go to Piombino which usually means changing trains at Campiglia Marittima. Trains run to Piombino Marittima station which is at the port. There are two ferry companies:

Thank you.
I swear I saw a map (somewhere!) that showed ferry lines from both Livorno and Piombino. That where I got started on the idea.. It was worth a shot |
There were direct sailings from Livorno to Elba years ago, but none has run in recent years. Maps often show out-of-date ferry routes.

Hi Janellebc, my husband and I are flying from Munich to Venice and then training to the Italian Riviera on our way to Rome. My husband is thinking about Elba now. Maybe you can convince me that we need to see Elba. Why are you going?

Hi all,
I am now in Livorno and can report to all that there are no ferry boats from Livorno to Elba. I plan to take a train from Livorno directly to Piombino tomorrow. |
Useful to know, but the OP's trip was five and a half years ago, so not much use to them. Perils of google?
