Ferry from Valencia to Palma de Mallorca - worth it?
I see the ferry from Valencia to Mallorca is 7 hours overnight. Is it worth it? Should we fly? Are the ferry boats nice? Get a room on ferry or just first class seats?
HELP.... |
An overnight ferry will waste less time than flying: you can spend a whole day in Valencia then a whole day on Mallorca.
There are two operators, Acciona Trasmediterranea and Balearia. www.trasmediterranea.es www.balearia.com Both have modern ships with bars, restaurants, etc. If you want a night's sleep, you should book a cabin. They all have a shower and WC. |
"An overnight ferry will waste less time than flying"
Sounds a ridiculous comment but in this case I totally agree. Neither Valencia nor Palma are the most user friendly airports and we usually spend at least 3 hours "hanging about" Palma airport with its overpriced food. I don't know the statistics but Palma has to be one of the largest single terminal airports in the world. The walking distances can be huge. Will you be foot passengers or take a hire car? |
Thanks for those HELPFUL insights! We plan to be foot passengers, but either use public transport or rent a car in Palma to see around the island a bit. (There will be 4 of us)
What can you advise us on that? |
Assuming that your only reason to be in Valencia isn't to catch the ferry then it's a good idea.
Otherwise it might not be |
Pray you are not sharing the ferry with an end of year junior or senior practically unchaperoned school group.
Getting a cabin would be a MUST for me, but do not expect a cruise ship atmosphere. I agree with the above comments. You may want to check out puro beach while there. I enjoyed several hours at their puro beach club between flights. It is 10 minutes on a 1 euro bus from the airport. very very nice place to chill out. google "puro beach palma" and you will get tons of beautiful photos. |
