Ferry from Scotland to Ireland
 

I will be traveling from Scotland to Ireland. I could easily fly, but I have the time and I thought it would fun to take a ferry. Is there a ferry from Scotland to Ireland? If there is, has anyone taken it and where does it leave from in Scotland and where does it arrive in Ireland?

We did the trip from Belfast to Cairnryan a few years ago. We also took another ferry from Holyhead Wales to Dublin.
They were fine for our trips, the sea was a little rough on the northern trip. We used the time to nap and relax.

and then click on the link on the right hand side of the page that says "Republic of Ireland" for a description of the trip via Holyhead. The Cairnyan option is the more direct, the Holyhead option is actually better from most of the rest of the UK, and is a good option if you want to check off "Wales" of you places visited.
Most ferries will have palatable food and beverage service, but patience is advised. Upon embarkation everyone seems to want a cup of expresso from the bar, so the same bar that could service 2.5 beer/soft drink patrons per minute suddenly goes into slow motion, taking about 3 to 4 minutes per patron to generate the precious portion of expresso, which is aggravating when there are 50 patrons in the one line. Well, the line eventually goes down and food/beverage service eventually goes to normal. but I digress . . . .

There is no ferry from Scotland to <u>Ireland</u>. There <i>are</i> ferries to Northern Ireland . . .

The coach uses the ferry, of course, for the crossing.
