Ferry from Istanbul to Izmir?
Has anyone been on the ferry from Istanbul to Izimir? Is it a good way to go?
|
It takes longer then -if you take the seabus from Yenikapi to Bandirma and drive to Ýzmir or you fly from istanbul to izmir. It is a good way because it is cheaper than flight and better than driving 4-5 hours instead of having rest

http://www.aegean.com.tr/ferries/domestic.html
You should compare the schedule & prices to airfare on www.turkishairlines.com
especially if you will not be travelling in July or August, because the rest of the year the trip takes 28 hours by ferry!

I used the service once and found it an interesting journey. The ship runs once a week and is promoted as a weekend cruise. You leave Istanbul in the afternoon and arrive in Izmir the next morning. The ship has self-service and waiter-service restaurants, three bars and a swimming pool. There are three grades of cabins - "A" are outside cabins, "B" are inside upper-deck cabins, and "C" are below the car deck - but all have a shower and toilet.

I don't understand how it takes 28 hours!
As Geoff mentioned itis an overnight trip

The schedule and fares are on www.tdi.com.tr/eng/3i.shtml.
The ship leaves Istanbul on Fridays at 1500 and is due in Izmir at 0900 in the morning, and returns from Izmir on Sundays at 1400, arriving back in Istanbul at 0900 on Monday. You can book a one-way ticket or the return cruise which includes meals and three nights aboard the ship which stays in Izmir for the weekend.
