Ferry from Capri to Positano
We will be departing Capri for Positano on May 3. I just checked the ferry/hydrofoil schedule and it only shows one ferry and it doesn't leave until late afternoon. Is that right or am I looking at the wrong schedule? Thanks.

Hi T,
Can you give us a link to your schedule? |
OOOH...I'm looking for that info too. I have seen the 1 ferry departing around 4 something. I also saw on another website the hydrofoil schedule with departures throughout the day. I thought maybe once May comes, there may be more ferries.

Good luck trying to catch the ferry. I was in Capri in Sept 2007 and the rush on the wharf for the ferries was unbelievable. I was in a tour group of 40 and it was just sheer luck that we all managed to get aboard. You just have to push and shove which is the Italian way to get on. There were fights that broke out amongst the passengers and crew, screaming in Italian at each other, I wouldn't be surprised that at times people end up in the water. There is no courtesy in terms of letting people off the ferry first then passengers boarding it's just a mad scramble. Even if you are lining up early to board late people just push past you and jump ahead. Good luck.

Ira,
Here is the link to the ferry schedule I found: http://www.capri.com/en/orari-traghettio. Vd, I hope the ferries aren't as crazy early in Mayfor us as they were for you in Sept. |
You are right....16.30 is the only scheduled ferry to Positano. However, there are loads of ferries to Sorrento starting from 7.00a.m. Maybe you could consider this. It's only a short ride from Sorrento to Positano.

As Leigh says, the departure for Positano is late afternoon - currently 16.25
For all ferry/hydrofoil services from Capri to Sorrento and Amalfi Coast see: http://www.capri.net/salsa/lang/en/page/transport.html Sorrento-Positano by bus (- or taxi) takes about 45 mins. For bus times see: http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campan...tosalerno_.pdf Hope this helps ... Steve |
Most of the passenger services to Capri cater for day-trippers, which is why there will be morning departures from the mainland and afternoon departures from Capri.
If you go via Sorrento, note that the town is on top of the cliffs and the harbour, obviously, is at the bottom. If you arrive by boat, you'll need to take the local bus or taxi up into the town in order to catch a bus to Positano. There are flights of stairs between the harbour and the town, but it's not something to do unless you're young and fit and have no luggage. |
Good point made by GeoffHammer about the town being at the top of the cliffs, but there are frequent small boat transfers from Sorrento to Positano. Choosing this option has the added bonus of seeing the Amalfi Coast road from the sea.

So can you buy a ticket in advance for this ferry or is it every person for themselves? I would think if there is only 1 ferry per day, that would sell out very quickly.
