Ferry from Amalfi to ischia? Or Positano to Ischia?

I am sure this has been asked before. But I could not find an answer, We are staying in Priano for 2 weeks. We would like to run over to Ischia for 2 nights. We do not want to go to Naples nor Sorrento for ferry. Can we get a ferry or Hydro from either Amalfi or Positano? Thank you so very much. We are going in 3 days May 6, 2011
Ciao, Sher

I know they have a boat from Positano to Ischia in the summer months. You may be a bit early. You can take a boat from Positano to Sorrento and catch the ferry from there. I assume you won't be bringing a car to Ischia.

Short of hiring your own vessel, I see no chance of you getting here directly from either place this month... unless you're able to blag your way aboard one of the excursions that run to the AC from Ischia (although I'm fairly sure they're not meant to allow that)...

There is a daily service in high season but, in both 2009 and 2010, it didn't started until June 14th (same day both years)....

If you can make an early start and be in Sorrento's harbour in time, the simplest would be the 09:30 Alilauro (which leaves, almost certainly, long before any boats from either place would arrive)....

You could perhaps make your way to Capri, and there meet up with the afternoon hydrofoil back to Ischia, at 16:40, as is also shown on that same cutting?

Otherwise you'll probably have to go to Naples - with which some of this may perhaps be of assistance...

.... or, if you feel you really must avoid that city, by a series of buses and trains you could get right round the Bay to Pozzuoli, and catch either a Caremar or Medmar ferry from there....

Wouldn't be my choice - and I'd go for the Sorrento route, taking either a taxi, or an early bus....

... and then this, to get down to the harbour....

.... and be here by about 10:30 !

Boats from Amalfi and Positano cater mainly for people making day trips to Capri. There should certainly be morning boats to Capri (weather permitting); ask for a one-way ticket but if they don't want to sell one, pay for the return journey.
There is a left luggage office by the harbour at Capri and normally boats to Ischia in the afternoon. If there is no suitable sailing from Capri to Ischia, go to Napoli then on to Ischia. Even that will be simpler, and pleasanter, than a combination of taxis, buses and trains.

Short answer no.

Go to Sorrento

But Priano upscale hotels

do make special arrangements

tours if you want to spend a lot of money

so check with your hotel.

For the current timetable of one line that offers "singles" to Capri from Positano and Amalfi, see....

But please note my comments beneath the image there....

Peter

PS: We've only lived here for eight years, so perhaps I'm wrong - however I doubt the journey necessitates a "combination of taxis, buses and trains" ?
