Ferry between Ireland and France?
 

Would anyone know if its true that there is a ferry that goes from Ireland to France? Also, how long does it take and is it expensive? My girls and I are planning a trip possibly to Ireland. However we love France and would like to go back and visit a second time. We have been to England already as well as Italy and Germany. We wanted to experience something different, as well as go back to our favorite place!

sure, there are ferries -- but WHY would you want that? They take about 20 hours, only get you to Cherbourg, and are very expensive. If you want to got to France you can fly to several cities in France in about 1 1/2 hours for a fraction of the cost.

You are forgetting Brittany Ferries route from Cork to Roscoff. It takes 13 hours and a typical price for car, 1 adult and 2 kids return would be under €800

They don't take 20 hours, don't only go to Cherbourg and aren't very expensive, especially if you aren't taking a car. Both Irish Ferries and Brittany Ferries (www.brittany-ferries.com) run to Roscoff, a delightful old town in Brittany.

I know there are shorter routes (even 11 hours on a ferry would be too long unless one paid extra for a stateroom).

I was just trying to point out the practicalities - that it isn't likely foreign tourists would be taking a rental car to France, want to spend 11 or 19 hours on a ferry, and be willing to pay that much when they could fly to any city in France for a fraction of the cost and in a fraction of the time.

For someone living in Ireland or the UK and wanting to take their own car on holiday - a ferry works. For a visitor just wanting to add on a bit of time in France - not so much.
