ferme-auberge
I understand these are farm houses where you stay with families. Any book available?

Anyone?

The verb fermer means to close. My french dictionary also uses the word ferme as shut, close etc., as well as farm. It might mean that the auberge is closed.

I've never seen a book published outside France that lists fermes-auberges, but every tourist office in the country maintains a list that they would be very happy to send to you upon request.

Some of these only function as restaurants, while some have accommodations. Conde Nast Traveler magazine did an excellent article on dining at them sometime within the last year, as I recall, if you want to look for that. I know a few web sites with listings, the first for dept of Burgundy only and the latter is the association, it appears: <BR>http://www.burgundy-tourism.com/vin/adresfermes.htm <BR>http://www.aubergeetfermeauberge.com...ChoisirAdh.asp
