feedback/suggestions on itinerary

Planning a first trip to Scotland for mid - lat Sept and bringing along an elderly Aunt and Uncle (but active - mid - 70s). We'll rent a car and I've drafted the following plan - any thoughts or ideas abt things to see, and does it seem too rushed and if so, what might I cut out?

Friday- Arrive Edinburgh airport. Transfer to hotel. Overnight Edinburgh
Saturday- Overnight Edinburgh
Sunday- Stirling Castle. Overnight St Andrews
Monday- Overnight St. Andrews
Tuesday - Balmoral Castle, Castle Fraser, Distilleries. Overnight Abelour
Wednesday- Inverness Overnight Inverness
Thursday- Inverness - possible visits Cawdor Castle, Fort George or Culloden Battlefield . Overnight Inverness
Friday-Inverness - possible visits to Dornoch & Dunrobin . Overnight Inverness
Saturday- Isle of Skye via Loch Ness etc . Overnight Skye
Sunday-Tour Isle of Skye . Overnight Skye
Monday-Skye to Oban via ferry, Fort William, Oban. Overnight Oban
Tuesday-Oban
Wednesday-Oban to Glasgow via Inveraray, Loch Lomond. Overnight Glasgow.
Thursday-Glasgow. Overnight Glasgow
Friday-Return to Edinburgh Overnight Edinburgh
Saturday-Overnight Edinburgh
Sunday-Edinburgh airport

just a couple of quick comments:

I would not stay IN Inverness. Somewhere in the surrounding area is fine but the city is mainly a commercial center and not very 'charming'.

I also would not split the time in Edinburgh. Stay in Edinburgh at the beginning or the end - not both. You don't need/want a car in either Edinburgh or Glasgow. So if it was me, I'd stay in Edinburgh, then take the train to Glasgow for a couple of nights, then when leaving Glasgow collect a car and do your loop in reverse (Oban > Skye > Inverness area > Speyside/Deeside > St Andrews > EDI). St Andrews is only about 90 minutes from EDI.

Thanks! We're looking to stay about 25 mins north of Inverness so glad to know we're missing anything by not staying in the city. We'll fly into EDI, so maybe get a car there and drop it off in Glasgow at the end and trading to EDI to fly out? Or is there another reason to consider doing the route in reverse!

Doing the itinerary clockwise or anti clockwise doesn't really matter.

I was just trying to get your car situation sorted out w/o having it in either city. There is no train connection to EDI so if you train from GLA you'd go into Edinburgh and then take a bus or cab back out to the airport.
