Feedback on neighborhood between Oval & Stockwell Stations, London

I've seen student housing offered there, and since my daughter is looking for housing for six months, I thought I'd ask if it was a safe neighborhood for a young woman. She's lived in Manhattan and Boston so she's street smart.

Some roads are better than others....do you have a specific address?

Suki Apr 24th, 2012 12:45 PM

Hackford road with entrance on Liberty street is the best I can find.

Can you provide a postal code? That is the best reference for us.

That is a block off Clapham Road and between oval and stockwell. From what I know that is a popular student residential area. There are other Londoners that I hope check in as I don't know that area very well.

Does she have other options to compare with?

This is when we need cw :(

I'm not sure, but I don't think I'd want to stay in Stockwell. Hopefully some other Londoners have better info . . .

SW9 ORD

We're just in the initial planning stages. She'll be working in Southwark. While she is combing gumtree, I am looking at more formal student residences. We've been to Europe 5 or 6 times but never London and I'd like to have the safety of a residence.

Oh don't I know it, janis. I've thought of him often over these last few weeks.

jamikins Apr 24th, 2012 01:08 PM

Hmmm please be sure to check with addresses found on gumtree before committing to anything! Has she looked in Clapham or by London bridge or even Bloomsbury? All of those areas would be better than stockwell...

Check with us I mean...

I will be sure to check and thanks for the advice. We'll keep looking.

This area isn't bad at all, very residential if anything... not much personality but not bad at all. Quite a lot of bus connections too.

Suki Apr 25th, 2012 06:26 PM

Thanks, Loco. I'd rather have her find something in a more interesting neighborhood, but I won't cross this off the list.
