February skiing in europe
Looking for suggestions for an easy trip from london for European skiing. Priorities are no more than 3 hours from the airport in europe, on decent roads. Inexpensive flight from london. Good snow in February, not too icy. Family size accomodations under $500 per room per night(including breakfast).
Thanks for any suggestions. I really dont care where in europe it is, as long as the skiing is good, and it is not too difficult to get to from the airport. |
Not a skier myself so cannot recommend specific resorts. But as an alternative to flying, Eurostar operates ski trains on weekends to some French alps slopes.
Just avoid mid-February if possible, which generally corresponds to half-term holiday where slopes and flights are crowded and everything gets pricey. |
As W9London take the ski train to Bourg St Maurice then from there you get the funicular railway up the mountain to Les Arcs.
Les Arcs has a huge ski area now. Its not the most pretty of resorts, being a purpose built ski resort, but the skiing is usually good and should be be able to get accomodation for less than $500 a night |
Hi Ellene - If you want an attractive resort in an area of spectacular scenery, consider Ortisei in the Dolomites.

Around Innsbruck there are various resorts, Axamer Lizum, Seefeld etc. within 1 hr. from the airport.

There is no way one can be sure of no ice or even having any snow at a given time in Europe. The weather is more variable, more like Vermont than Colorado or Utah. High glaciers can have quaranteed snow(and be boring), but they will not be close to the airport.
