Another vote for Cerveseria Catalana in Barcelona. I could have eaten there every single day and been happy. I loved the "datil" that JeanValjean reminded me about.

People are going to hate me for saying this, but I had tapas in about a dozen places in Madrid...but my favorite is still Cafe Barcelona in Evanston, Illinois.

And Jean Valjean and TrendGirl are right...the datil is pure tapas magic!

Evanston, Illinois-----who knew? I am still looking for the "datil" in NYC.

"datil" Aren't those really hot peppers?

capo Mar 16th, 2004 12:41 PM

No. A datil is what two lentils go out on when they're romantically interested in each other.

In Barcelona....I can't remember exactly WHERE it was, but it was called "La Taverna del Bisbe" or something like that....anyway, it translates to "The Bishop's Tavern."

It was so good, we went there 3 times in a 3 day period, twice in one day!

If you go, try the sangria made from Cava as well. It was sensational...white, sparkling sangria!

Can anyone recommend a great tapas bar in Granada?

conquistador Mar 19th, 2004 05:42 PM

Bar Miami in Sevilla especially for fried squid rings .

Lentils go on datils? :D

The "datil" at Cerveseria Catalana is a pitted date, filled with cheese, wrapped in bacon, breaded and deep fried... The crunch from the breading gives way to the saltiness of the bacon, the sweetness of the date and the creaminess of the cheese...and all this on top of a little piece of bread rubbed with tomato, garlic and olive oil... truly amazing.

In Madrid, our "holy trinity" between Sol and Plaza Santa Ana:

Casa Abuelo - The best garlic shrimp anywhere.

Las Bravas - For the original patatas bravas.

La Zapateria - Pinchos Morunos and Vegetarian mixed fry.

Mikel Etxea, C/ Ferran 15, just off Las Ramblas. My Mom and I ate here twice last May ? it was fabulous!!! Get there by 8pm to grab a stool at the bar and enjoy the various tapas.
