Hi
As you have the time, i think Bled is a great idea, not forgetting Plitvice which is a must.

I just returned from this area. Lake Bled is beautiful. We stayed at the Hotel Villa Bled with a lake view (worth the money). Rab was our favorite place in Croatia and we also really enjoyed Plitvice. On the way there, you see remnants from the war. This was quite eye openning for us. Have a great time!

You be the judge based on these photos.
I liked Korcula and the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro.

Dubrovnik Dubrovnik Dubrovnik! Loved this town; its incredibly beautiful and charming.

And I highly second bobthenavigators suggetion of the Bay of Kotor/Monenegro! From Dubrovnik one could easily daytrip to Kotor and that area, although a night or two would be even better.

Oops, also mentioned that Bled is a lovely place and certainly worthwhile to visit. If you have the time, Ljubljana is Slovenia's charming capital and also worth a day.

We really liked Zagreb. Not everyone's cup of tea, but we were pleasantly surprised with this capital city. The historic center has lots of great restaurants and cafes and several nice pedestrian-only areas. The cathedral is beautiful and worth visiting.

I second Dubrovnik, its beautiful especially inside the Old City walls.

Istria was our favourite location (with Dubrovnik a very close second). We absolutely loved it!

I'm with travel2live in that we preferred the Istria region over Dubrovnik. While we found Dubrovnik charming (and who can deny the beautiful views of the Adriatic), it was the warmth and welcoming in Istria that made it more inviting. It was an interesting comparison between the 2 areas of amazing Croatia, with Istria getting the edge.

If you can schedule a trip to Bled, by all means do it. The lake is stunning and, although touristy, do take the plenta to the island and visit St Mary's Church (1-1/2 hr return trip). The Julian Alps make a wonderful backdrop to this fairy tale setting. Make sure you save room for dessert at Smon Slascicarna (Brown Bear), which is near the bus station at Grajska cesta 3. THE best desserts on earth!!

Hmmm....maybe I should consider a trip to Istria! We are thinking about going back to Croatia next year because we loved it so much, although we were going to head back down to Dubrovnik and spend a few nights in Korcula and a few nights in Kotor, Montenegro. I tossed around the idea of Istria but DH doesn't see how it could possibly be any prettier than Dubrovnik. I'm intrigued by the thoughts above! For those of you who prefer Istria, was it as scenic as Dubrovnik?

Tracy, we are headed to Slovenia and Croatia and your report was the final incentive we needed. We leave the last week of August and will report back in October. To any of you that need specific information that you haven't been able to find, let me know and I'll do my best to obtain. My thanks to all of you for your tolerance and kindness.
