Favorite Tuscany Map
 

We will be picking up a car in Florence and visiting different hill towns throughout Tuscany for 5 days in June before driving to Venice to drop the car. What maps has anyone used that were very helpful? We may also have GPS but wanted to have a good map as well.

You want the Touring Club Italiano Toscana map.

At a certain point, especially in Tuscany, maps become irrelevant. There's simply no way to follow the twists and turns of Italian roads. Luckily, Tuscany offers such great road signs, it's fairly easy to find your way.

A good map will help you get from one large place to another. I've owned them all through the years but I keep coming back to TCI maps. http://www.touringclub.it/international_TCI/index.asp

Once you get used to them, there's something about the graphic design of the TCI maps that is super smart. But, like I said, at a certain point, you put the map down and trust the road signs. It works.

Is there a better and more beautiful place to get lost?

For many years I've been a fan of The American Map Company's handy-sized atlas (France, Italy and Spain), and Michelin's UK Road Atlas. No having to fold and unfold...navigator can sit "calmly" with the proper page open in the atlas, and blare out instructions, with little or no rancor. Beats arguing with the GPS!

I also agree that the signage is comfortable all over Italy, especially.

I concur that you will need a good map and the TCI Toscana map at 200K is the best---big but good.

Another vote for TCI....
