Favorite Tuscan Wineries
 

Please give me some recommendations for tastings and tours. My husband and I will be in Italy at the end of the month and would love to spend a weekend tasting wines and touring. Let me know your favs so we can add them to the list.

Terrabianca in Radda (near Siena) has great wines and olive oil as well. Their Campacio is one of the top wines in Italy.

Le Miccine by Gaiole - excellent classico etc - lovely people and great gites if you are looking for a place to stay

You will want to try the Brunellos in and around Montalcino. Banfi is also in the area and they have a nice variety for tasting. ((b))

Is it necessary to make reservations for each tasting or can you pop into some vineyards along the Chianti Road?

We just popped in to Dievole. The next English tour wasn't for an hour or 2, so we sat on the terrace, drank wine, ate the complimentary cheese, bread and Dievole olive oil (which I had to bring a bottle home!) and wandered around the grounds while we waited. It was wonderful!

Spent an afternoon at Verranazzo, north of Castellina in Chianti...fantastic! We have donw our share of wine tasting but this was history & passion & good food & wine & new friends, all in a few hours. Highlight of our trip...

Fattoria dei Barbi just south of Montalcino was wonderful - tour, tasting, staff, lunch are easily some of our favorite memories of Tuscany. We just used the last of the olive oil we bought at the farm and it nearly broke my heart. So we plan to go back this year for more!

Cantinetta D Greve, in the town of Greve. Possibly the most wines you could taste in a single location, all Tuscan. They have the automated dispensing system that use use debit cards, sold in the shop, to dispense the wines. There are about 5-7 dispensing stations with about 10-14 bottles in each station. You get a 1 oz. pour. Card is debited per the price indicated for each bottle. Some of stations group the wines, as one is all Chianti, another super Tuscan, another is sweet & dessert wines and other groupings, cheap to expensive. There are lots of tables and chairs and you can taste as much or as little wine as you like. Great to just take your time to relax at the tables & enjoy. You can also taste olive oil as well as buy bread, salumi, procuitto & cheese.
If you interested in knowing anything about any of the wines the staff is very knowledgeable & helpfull.
