Favorite thing in Europe?
If you had to say which was the one best thing to do in Europe, what would you say. For me it's a boat ride down Venice's Grand Canale at night, when the ancient silent palaces are surrealistically illuminated - a mysterious and romantic scene that's my top thing in 35 years of European travel!

My favorite thing turns out to be a dilemma. Should I attend Sunday High Mass at Stephansdom in Vienna? Or should I attend High Mass at Augustinerkirche?
How could they have allowed both to occur within the same hour?
Oh well, there will be other Sundays.

My very favorite day was the early morning bicycle ride north of Brugges along the Damme Canal.
Sunset over the Caldera in Santorini was pretty spectacular.
Hiking in the Swiss Alps is awfully hard to beat.
Eating!
Riding a small boat into the Norwegian fjords.
Early morning balloon ride in Cappodocia, Turkey.
Walking in any European city early in the morning or late at night.

2 events stand out. There are more (ofcourse) but these 2 can not be duplicated. 1. Finding records from the 1800's about my great grandparents in a small town in Poland when I went on a heritage hunt with my kids. 2. Slowly going around the med coast of Turkey in a Gulet (traditional Turkish wooden boat). We saw some villages that were only accessible by water. These are so special because even with all my research before a trip these were unexpected treats.

Slowly walking around European cities in the evenings - lots of people out and about just wandering around enjoying a gelato or a crepe or whatever; street musicians; sunsets over the Seine, the Arno, the Thames; beautifuly lit buildings.
