favorite restaurants in York, esp. Indian food
Hello, I know there are many folks out
there who love York as I do. I am looking for restuarant suggestions for my visit this summer. I'm thinking, medium/moderate prices, nice (but casual) dress expected. Any favorites in the city center, especially Indian restaurants? I am way too familiar with Betty's but one cannot eat every meal there!
Has anyone tried the vegetarian restaurant called the Rubicon?
Thanks in advance for your favorites and suggestions.

Jan,

WHAT? You don't want to try Betty's new Curry-flavored "fat rascal"?

Hi Jan,
You could try the Tandoori Night, 21-23 Bootham. Phone: (0)1904 612017. While I have not been there myself, I plan to when I visit York in September. A friend of mine was in York in 2000 and he raved about it. My friend described it as having an exceptionally elegant interior. Apparently it is a popular Indian, fully licensed restaurant within sight of the Minster. I understand that you can get a good meal for around £9.
If you would like some more recommendations on restaurants, that I have gleaned from various sources, email me.

Didn't try any Indian restaurants in York but I did have very good pub food at The Golden Fleece. Great fish & chips, non-smoking room for those who prefer, cask ale available. I had great Indian in Skipton if you're ever in that town.
