Favorite places for lunch in Rome?
 

Traveling with my husband and college student daughter to Rome for a short, intense visit. Thought we might eat out for lunch (and a rest) while sightseeing and maybe eat at our apt. in the evenings. What are your favorites - great food, not too expensive? Thanks!

In my response to your question in another thread about restaurants in Trastevere, you may have missed this comment about a lunch we thoroughly enjoyed near the Pantheon:

If you do end up at Enoteca Corsi, a wonderful gelateria is not far away – just a little to the north of the Pantheon: <b> Gelateria Caffe Pasticceria Giolotti</b> (Via Uffici del Vicario, 40).

Both are well worth seeking out – enjoy!

Oh, I forgot to mention another restaurant not too far from the Pantheon which we would highly recommend. Excellent and reasonably priced, <b>Restaurant Coco</b> (Piazza delle Coppelle, 54) is located behind an open-air fish market, and offers an excellent business lunch buffet in a pleasant atmosphere for a reasonable 10 Euro. We were able to sample a variety of local specialties, including the fried squash blossoms.

And, since it is near the Pantheon, it is just a couple of blocks to <b>Gelateria Caffe Pasticceria Giolotti</b> (Via Uffici del Vicario, 40)!

I did notice and highlighted it in my notes when I realized that we would be eating in other areas besides TRastevere! Thanks for all!

We mostly ate light lunches, like take-out panini, for lunch and had bigger meals at night.

I know I have seen a thread with suggestions near the VAtican which I will try to find

Hostaria da Nerone on Via delle Terme di Tito is a good place with traditional Roman cooking convenient to the Forum and Colosseum.

Our family had dinner at Da Vito e Dina's with friends including a former Catholic priest who has spent a lot of time in Rome. Good food, simple hosteria. Here is an LA Times article describing it and others that might interest you
