Favorite place for breakfast in Edinburgh?

A little spin off pole. Where's your favorite place to go for breakfast (full Scottish one, OR something lighter)?

caroline mentioned The Cloisters Bar already, looks great! www.cloistersbar.co.uk

Here's a thread from last year about breakfasts in Edinburgh that might have some useful info.

Not exactly breakfast, but I heartily recommend Plaisir du Chocolat for a pastry and hot chocolate (or coffee). It's on the Canongate part of the Royal Mile (towards the Palace). I think it was also a caroline suggestion - thanks caroline!!

Well that thread sums it all up, thanks!

Always glad to be helpful, Amelie ! When are you coming ?

June 14th - July 1st, with my parents (who have never been out of the country)! I cannot wait. We'll be in Edinburgh June 21st - June 25th, and Aberdeen the rest of the time.

My husband has not been home in 3 years! He has not seen anyone who could not attend our US wedding since he moved. (Although we had 40 fly over from Scotland for the big day). It's funny that some of them have never seen him as a married man. Very strange since we've almost been married 3 years. I think I may cry when we land, for his sake (I'm emotional/sentimental like that).

Hi Amelie. How lovely - I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. June is a nice time to come. Although we won't be here - we'll be in Italy !

On a general note, you probably know this but pubs are so much nicer, particularly to eat in, since the smoking ban. We actually went to Cloisters for a celebratory breakfast on the Sunday the ban came into force ! It is also where DH and I met :-)

Ooh have fun in Italy, I'm jealous! But Scotland is so nice in June, at least the last time I was in Scotland it was June (03) and the weather was excellent (probably a fluke though).

Here in Cleveland, we just had a smoking ban go through for Ohio in Jan. It has been soooo nice!

Oh, could you explain roughly where Cloisters is? I asked my husband about the street and he didn't know (he lived in Edinburgh for 10 years, he's so useless! lol).

The weather should be OK in June. We just tend to go away then as it's immediately before the school holidays (no kids).

Cloisters at Tollcross, on the road which leads to the Meadows, on the left hand side as you head towards the Meadows. I saw on another post that you are staying at the Knight Residence so it is probably actually your nearest pub !!

You're also near Bennetts which is another nice pub with a listed interior. I think they do food until early evening but I haven't eaten there. It can get very busy on Fri/Sat night but it's nice other times.

Anyway, off home for the weekend now. Have a good one !
