Favorite Pizza Place in London?
I'll be going to London in about a month (yippee!), with my 2 teenage sons. The last time we were there, they fell in love with London pizza. You know the kind -- thin and crispy. They discovered it at Pizza Express, so we ended up eating in various Pizza Express restaurants during our visit.
While I also enjoy Pizza Express, I was wondering what other restaurants we can try to get good pizza (so we can mix it up a little). Thanks! Susan |
Oh, and by the way, we're staying in Chelsea, although we're willing to travel for good pizza!

I prefer another chain called Ask. They also do thin-crust wood-oven fired pizzas but I find their topping combinations more appetising (and generous) and really like that they have an equally long pasta menu for those in the group who don't fancy pizza. Just all round nicer, IMHO, but taste is so personal.
There are also many local Italian restaurants that serve great, traditional, thin-crust pizzas. There's one near where I live in North Finchley but that's way too far from Chelsea to be worthwhile. Instead I'd ask staff at your hotel if they can recommend any local Italians that serve really GOOD home made pizzas. Have a great visit! Kavey |
I have to agree with Kavey. I much prefer the pizza at ASK and they have loads of other options on their menus.
There is one on King's Rd, near Chelsea Town Hall |
Thanks for your input, Kavey and Jody. Kavey -- we're staying in an apartment, so no staff to ask, which is why I enjoy this forum so much!
Keep the ideas coming. Susan |
I too would recommend ASK. I have not tried them in London, but have with consistently good results in Liverpool, Peterborough and York. You can see their menu at http://www.askcentral.co.uk/askmainani.html

While staying in the Marylebone area, I preferred Zizzi to ASK and Pizza Express. Zizzi is also a chain and I think it may even be owned by ASK. They do wood fired pizzas and pastas and have a good selection of wine.

Ask does a great goat cheese and basil pizza. There's an Ask just a short walk from Chelsea at the Gloucester Road tube stop (in the little mini-mall inside the stop).

Thanks everyone. Looks like we'll try out ASK.
Any other recommendations? Susan |
bellairegirl, I can't add anything because we only tried Pizza Express in London but my teenage son clearly has the same pizza tastes. Last time we stayed in Vauxhall. There were several Portuguese restaurants in that area that looked like they might have good (and certainly cheap) pizza, but we were never there at the right time to eat dinner.

The chain, Strada, does wood fired pizza. I know there is one on the New Kings Road in Parsons Green area of Fulham.
