Favorite luggage
 

What is your favorite LIGHT, but sturdy luggage? We recently bought Travel Pro b/c it was higly rated. It's ridiculously heavy--without anything in it! We have had touble with the weight limit several times and it's because the luggage itself is almost 20 lbs! What is the general consensus on this?

Hi and just went luggage shopping last weekend. I bought an Atlantic Infinity LX model in 22" and it seems fairly moderate weight, but I loved all the pockets... Atlantic also has a line called FRONTIER that is supposed to be considered their "light weight" models, but not sure how sturdy it is and how long it will hold up.

I purchased my favorite piece of luggage on my last trip to Rome. It is small, has wheels and a telescoping handle, and is hard-sided but light. I purchased it at Benneton Accessories on via del Corso. It's small enough to be used as a carry-on.

I just got an American Tourister 20''x8"x14" rolling backpack from Walmart for $29. It weighs between 4 and 5 pounds empty and is very sturdy with lots of zip up pockets. I like it because it is softsided and squishy enough to fit under the plane seat so I don't have to lift it overhead.

Before that I had a similiar 4 pound Samsonite rolling backpack, which I used and wore out after eight years of hard use.

There is a quandry here because what is light may not be durable if you want wheels. We use Briggs & Riley. The 22 inch expandable is my favorite. This is because it expands, has the telescoping handle, great in line skate wheels, a garment bag in one section, etc. The fabric is balistic nylon I think. Plus, they provide a lifetime warranty for repair if damaged including if damaged by the airline.

So we have opted for its convenience even though it is a bit heavier than we would like. Friends bought a much lighter 22 in an off brand and the wheels have problems and the handle after a couple trips no longer extends properly.

So it is a trade off. Good luck, Let us know if you find a high quality light weight case.
