Favorite Liquours

As I write this I am sipping Anis Escarchado made on the Island of Tercieira in the Azores. It is absolutely wonderful - my favorite of anis flavored liquours.

Any other favorites brought back from trips?

Becherovka from Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.

I used to bring back a couple liters in my carry-on every time I visited The Czech Republic, but one can't do that, anymore. So, that's one more reason to visit Ceske Budejovice and The Czech Republic three or so times every year --- so that I can sip it there.

Marc in Burgundy.

Crema de orujo from Potes in the Liébana Valley of Cantabria, Northern Spain.

A second vote for Becherovka. It has some healing properties, too. Helped my mom with her throat problems. The good news is that you can order it online.

Limoncello from Sorrento is another one of my favorites.

I am new around here, and glad to see that this is not all about timetables and hotel names, but about the good stuff - the stuff you can take home with you and enjoy until it's time to go back and get some more...

From Switzerland: Chrüter (from various locations, they all taste different), Pflümliwasser, Zwetschgenwasser, Marc, Apfelschnaps, Mirabellen, Kirsch (Zug and Baselbiet - Etter brand for example), Eier-Kirsch (Wirz!), Williamine...

From Italy: Grappa and Limoncello.

From Central Europe countries and the Balkans: Slibovic (or the various local variations of spellings and flavors...).

From France: Calvados.

So much to drink, so little time...

eau de noix or vin de noix from the Dordogne, but a batch made at home can be just as good.

I have rarely met one that I didn't like. Later today I will try the new St-Germain liqueur made from elderflower blossoms handpicked in the Alps.

Ira- Thanks for reminding me of Slivovitz. Just reading the name activated m memory neurons and good ones at that. Now I have to go out and get some.

Hi DalaiLlama,

Love your list of liquor. I'm still feeling the effects of my potent Cafe Zwetchgen, ordered at an alpine hut on the ski slopes.

Unicum from Hungary...which isn't being made anymore at least for import to the US :(
