Favorite hotels

please suggest your favorite four or five hotels for Lisbon and Porto. We are also looking at Obidos, Tomar or Leira, and Evora. Budget is around $200/night though we could go a bit higher if it were really worth it. Thanks so much.

Take a careful look at the Pousadas. they are hard to beat cost wise and comfort wise and historically interesting!!! Hotel Templar in Tomar is also very nice. but the pousadas are your best bet.

Cavaet:

We stayed in these places a 1,000 years ago.

There was a place in Evora where there elegantly appointed rooms of one end of a stable, while horses were kept at the other. They were far away enough that no untoward odors emanated from the steeds.

Then we stayed at place in Braga that was on the on the top of a hill and you could overlook the city with the best seat being the toilet and you could open the doors and look out while seated.

Enjoyed the pousadas in Evora, Obidos and Guimares. In Porto the Infante de Sagres was lovely with excellent service.

Lisbon: Alif Avenidas Hotel is the best hotel with a good location and reviews, who stayed over there including me.

Thanks Steve, just wondering though how hard it would be to use that as a base for exploring Lisbon...it looks lovely

In October I stay at 2 different hotels in Lisboa. They happened to be near each other, which was a perfect location (at least I thought so).
- CS Vintage
- Hotel Eurostars Das Letras

I believe I paid around $100-120 euros per night. I would stay in both again. Really nice, clean, quiet and good location.
Enjoy your trip

Hi there,
I have been planing my visit to Jerusalem for years but due to my work and my fear about hotel booking has preventing me to travel. I searched n Internet and i found a boutique hotel in Jerusalem called American Colony and i probably going to stay there if all things go well...so finger crossed to that...

Here is the website if you want to check out :-http://www.americancolony.com/

ekscrunchy Jul 16th, 2014 03:50 AM

Yes I have stayed at the American Colony, but I hope you realize that you are on the Portugal forum..

bensheddy Jul 25th, 2014 04:14 AM

yeah i realize but is Portugal people don't go to Israel??

bilboburgler Jul 25th, 2014 04:53 AM

Ah, you missunderstand the concept. This forum is for people who are going to Portugal. If you want to irritate people going to Isreal you need to go to the Isreal forum, and right now might not be the right time for that.
