Favorite German Christmas Markets
 

Not this year, but next, the kids will be in Germany for the Christmas Market season (Nov 22 until Dec 24). they'll going to be shooting as many as possible for a video they are doing.

So, of the bazillion that are available, and with the understanding that in many cases it will be shoot the market, grab some sleep, train to the next town, maybe have some time to see some sights and shoot again, which are your favorites?

They intend to start in Bavaria and work their way to the north west. We have a list of probably 300 from the German tourist board, but I'd like to know what are your favorites and why. Their goal is to be able to shoot at least 20.

Head to Saxony instead of Northwest. There is hardly a region with more local Christmas traditions and flair than Dresden and the Ore Mountains. Dresden itself has several markets so you can hit half a dozen in one day if you must, and then there are all the small towns. There is a current thread right now about this region - check there.

Arrgh, how old is this thread...

The thread is almost 15 months old. See, you start by looking at the year it was posted, then add or subtract the months and voila, you have your answer.

Sometimes even old threads give folks ideas. The difference between the time that I originally posted this and now that it has reappeared is that my daughter has decided to join the Army for a few years and will actually be serving in Germany during the Christmas market season next year. So golly, the ideas that were brought up are even more relevant.
