Favorite Barcelona Restaurants?
 

We will be traveling to Barcelona in the spring with our 13 yo daughter. We have been to Europe several times, but have never been to Spain.Looking for recommendations of some of your favorite Barcelona restaurants. While our daughter has a good palate, i don't think we need any multi-course Michelin-star types of places, but good, tasty food and a nice atmosphere would be great. Catalan cuisine, tapas, of course, but other cuisines (Italian and French?) in BCN would be appreciated. We will be staying in the Passeig de Gracia but obv can cab it around.Thank you.

There are some good tapas places around the Placa de Pi. Unless someone has a specific recommendation avoid restaurants on the Ramblas and Barceloneta.

I was very pleased with
- Restaurant 7 Portes and
- Tapeo.

I was extremely disappointed with Cerveceria Catalana, which many people recommend.

Sorry for the capital letters, I'm not shouting, honestly. There are lots of trendy places in the city like Tickets, for tapas, but the sheer old fashionedness (is that a word?) of the 4 Cats and the good food pulls us back every time we go to Barcelona.

LOL Rubicand, Glad you weren't shouting :lol: Every list i saw mentions Tickets, but it seems like it might be too "inventive" for my crew. We would probably love it, but i think the old-fashioned places sound great. Thank you everyone who has posted- keep the recs coming please!

KJA- Tapeo is definitely on the list!

I'm not a picky eater and usually just eat in plcaes that look ok around where I'm staying. There are lots of tapas places on rambla de Catalunya, some are open-air (although those are not the best) and there are restaurants in the middle of the blvd. This it NOT the famous ramblas you've heard about.

Trobador is an easy place to drop in and opens early compared to some restaurants (I think 7:30).

We were in Barcelona in May 2018 and enjoyed 2 wonderful dinners at Teoric Taverna Gastronomica. Be sure to make advance reservations for dinner several weeks before your arrival. I never rely on Tripadvisor reviews but this is one time the reviews are spot on!

I hope you prepare your young teen for when she will be eating along with where. The Spanish dine very late; many restaurants open for the evening meal at 9 p.m. Yes there are places with hours more like North America, particularly in hotels. But the authentic experience is late and leisurely.

I have found maribel's food guides helpful. She has gone from blogging to full-fledged guidebooks. Your teen can get a glimpse of what is to come. Attachment 1782

We really loved PLA. We went there both times we were in Barcelona and loved it both times.

The Spanish often have a large lunch. This would make it easier to adjust the late dinner. BUT in Barcelona because of all the tourism, you can find places that are open early than 9 PM.

I forgot to add one of my favorites Churrería Laietana.for breakfast. They just make churros and porras (a fatter version of churros) with hot chocolate. Guaranteed to be addictive and dd the poundage.

Thanks Southam, with the time change, the late dining hour wont be an issue. She's also used to dining with us here in New England at 8 pm. I'm planning on making our dinner reservations around 9:30.

Southam and others, We are planning to stay at the Majestic on the Passeig de Gracia. Reading the Barcelona blog you linked, she said the Passieg de Gracia is full of tourist traps, Is this area very touristy? Is it the Times Square of Barcelona?

IMO, that's malarkey. I'm sure there are tourist traps, but you can walk past them. Eixample is a very reasonable choice of locations.

The Times Square of Barcelona is The Ramblas. The Eixample is a huge area but most of it is residential.

Here is a very good but simple chicken restaurant in the Eixample. You will not find many tourists there.
