Just returned from a stay at the Villa Clementina in Bracciano, Italy. A truly beautiful spot - the rooms all have hand-painted murals (very beautifully done) and are spacious, well-appointed, very clean - the restaurant is extremely good (try the special Sicilian Parfait for dessert, unbelievable) - the hosts Fausto and Dmitri and the man-of-all-trades Giorgio couldn't be more gracious, friendly, knowledgable. they have beautiful gardens, clay tennis court, swimming pool. A short walk through the forest to the lake. Bellissimo.

skz5, we just returned from Germany and there were a couple of places that we could recommend:

Bamberg - Altstadthotel Molitor. While not easy to find without a GPS, it is located between the St. Nepomuk Hotel and the Klosterbrau Brewery by the river. Nothing fancy, just a solid 3* hotel with excellent service in a great location.

Hannoversch Münden - Hotel Alter Packoff. This 4* property is located right on the confluence of the Fulda and Wesser Rivers but only a few steps to the lovely town square. Our room was just a standard double room (Fulda Room) but it was very spacious with all the little touches you would expect. They have a nice restaurant on site and served a cooked to order breakfast. Unfortunately, we were only there for one night at the end of our trip, but would love to return again for a longer stay.

I know the posting wondering about Upper Dorey's Mill (see corrected spelling) was several years ago, but here is the website:

My favorite place is family-run Hostellerie Alpenrose in Schonried Switzerland a small village just outside of Gstaad. It's the perfect swiss chalet complete with geraniums at the windows in summer and a roaring fire in the winter. The food is excellent, a bit of a splurge for me, but the whole atmosphere of sitting on the beautiful flower bedecked terrace with the Alps in the background is awesome. It's what I picture in my mind when I'm in the dentist chair!

I took the recommendation of hopingtotravel and stayed at La Maison sur Colline near Carcassone. Loved it! We stayed in the blue room too.

The views are absolutely spectacular and the staff really treats you like family. And the beds are super comfy

We have 3 favorites, all in Ireland.

http://www.shelburnelodge.com/
Shelburne Lodge in Kenmare, Ireland was like staying in a favorite cousin's country manor house. Best breakfast in 2 trips and you could walk to town for dinner. Fabulous.

Near Carrick-on-Shannon, Ireland this was a real find. Beautiful decorating. We had the blue room with a fire going at night which was quite lovely.

Greenmount House in Dingle was another good find. More modern with balconies overlooking the bay, it was top of the line IMO. Nice breakfast room with exceptional views and John Curran, the owner, puring coffee and chatting with the guests--nice touch.

I've probably mentioned before how much we enjoy staying at the Schernthaner Hotel in St. Gilgen on Wolfgangsee, Austria. The owner, Frau Eisl, couldn't be nicer. She keeps a clean "haus" and treats all her guests like treasured friends. We have stayed there numerous times and look forward to going back.
