Fav Restaurant in Sorrento ??

We only have 1 night in Sorrento - what was your favorite restaurant - any to avoid ?? We are taking the ferry over from Capri so something close to the ferry landing would be great. Is there anything else or place we should go to ?

This goes back a few years, so not sure how good a recommendation, but we LOVED La Favorita Parruchiano, a rather large place with a beatiful trellised greenhouse sort of room with extended gardens. I'd call it "medium" priced.

Also enjoyed the very popular Antica Trattoria -- I guess that's its full name. Again, a nice garden, great food.

Thanks Neopolitan - I'll write these names down.

Caruso's! It's near the stairs that go down to the marina. It was very special. I've been to Parruchiano's several times and enjoyed it. Recently someone panned it here. I really prefer the lower, street level dining room. The big tour groups tend to go in the garden area. It's not the right place for a really special dinner though. That is Caruso's.

Thanks CATBERT - we were on a cruise shore excursion and I remember them bring us up to a furniture store then walking to a 3 level (huge) greenhouse type garden restaurant - very touristy ! So Caruso's sounds good ! Thanks

I remember liking a place called the Osteria Gatto Nero...but that was 10 yrs ago, not sure if it's still there. Owners very nice, casual and relaxing.

It's a little off the tourist path, but L'Osteria del Buon Convento, Via B.Donnorso, 5/7 - Sorrento, is a fabulous restaurant. The food, especially the seafood, is fresh. The owner-chef is a delight, and there is frequently live music. It's a find.

Il Buco:

Great atmosphere and divine food. It's located in Piazza San Antonio.

The food and service are really great. See my trip report from may.

Another vote for l'Osteria del Buon Convento. The owner/chef is a great southern Italian character. The restaurant is frequented by many locals. Food is good to excellent (order the seafood fritto misto, a specialty), and the atmosphere is everything you'd want to experience in Italy.
