Fast Train to Venice

My family and I will be flying into Rome in mid-July. We need to get to Venice the fastest route possible. I know there is a connection from the airport to Termini Train station, but what is the fastest way to get to Venice? Our plane lands at 8:21am, do we have enough time to make the 10:55am Eurostar connection at Termini? Do I need to buy tickets ahead since it will be mid-July? I've done some research, but not really sure what to do. Please help!

Eurostar service is as fast as it gets. You could get to Venice faster by flying, since you weill already be at the airport. The train takes 4 and a half hours. Schedules at www.trenitalia.com -- and yes, I think you have a decent shot at the 10:55 departure, including buying your tickets just before you board.

Best wishes,

Rex

Thank you Rex for the good info. I didn't know that you could do that. Thanks also for the info about the train! We're European virgins and I'm trying to plan everything on my own. I love doing this, but sometimes I have a few questions and I'm so glad I found this "Travel Talk" on Fodor's to get experienced travelers imput!

You're welcome. We were all virgins once. The fun/frustrating part is that you don't know all the things that you don't know you don't know. Nor do "we" know to answer all the questions you don't know to ask.

That's why you have to keep going back to Europe.

:)

Agree that you likely will have sufficient time to get from airport to Termini and make the 10:55 am train to Venice. I've always waited until getting to Italy to purchase train tix. Then again, I've never been there during the height of the summer season. As you will be traveling in July, it's liable to be very busy & hectic; if coming into Rome on a Friday or Saturday, it can be crowded with folks traveling on weekend.

There's alot of threads on this website discussing train travel in Italy. I'd point to one of the many ... Eurostar Italia: Differences between First & Second Class . . .

SORRY, I forgot to include the link to that thread . . . http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34419647

kastarkey, buy your tickets in advance..July is a very busy month , it seems like that almost everyone is off going someplaces.
I was in Italy last summer, I tried to buy a train ticket( Eurostar) the day before of my departure, I could not do it,the train was already booked.

For your own peace of mind, buy your tickets ahead.
Even if you take the Intercity, if you dont reserve your seat ahead, your chance to be standing is almost 100%..
Buon viaggio,
kismet
