Fast Train to Barcelona

Staying in Gordes 4 nights and then traveling to Barcelona. We plan on taking a fast train, any suggestions on what town to depart from? We were thinking Avignon. We also have to return a car same morning. Thanks...Mel

Yes, Avignon would be good. Just check train times at www.trainline.eu or www.loco2.com

There's a morning train that's direct, fares from €29 upwards.

It's up to you, you could do either Avignon or Aix, both have direct trains to Barcelona. In fact, it's the same train, starts at Aix. I think Avignon is closer to Gordes by about 30 km, but I'd check rentals to see if that affects the choice or cost.

Avignon TGV station not the intown one that fast trains don't serve - a few miles out of Avignon so easy to get to - for cheap fares check www.sncf-voayages.com or www.thetrainline.eu- similar fares but easier to use many say for foreigners. For lots on trains check www.seat61.com (Man in Seat 61 who posts above's commercial site with stupendous advice and tips on booking discounted tickets; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.
