What's your favorite Italian "fast food"?

Gellato, of course!

Wine.

There's no such thing. A true Italian meal no matter how small or simple is meant to be savored and enjoyed not gobbled down like a Big Mac

No, that's what I mean, something you can grab and go with. I vote for wine and gelato too, or olives, bread and cheese. How do you feel about those "squashed" sandwiches?

Just got back from Italy and the fast food we lovd were suppli (rice balls), potato corquettes, panini sandwiches with all sorts of fillings, and pizza (lots of pizza on the run places with toppings such as tuna and potato, salad and dried beef etc)

There's fast food...<BR><BR>and then there's KFC.<BR>

Why don't you just call it ice-cream, 'cos that's what it it? It's just ice-cream. Why bother using that particular Italian word when the rest of everyhting to type is English?

FYI<BR><BR>Gelato is NOT ice CREAM. Ice Cream is made of light or heavy cream and has a higher butter fat content; Gelato is made of whole MILK. Big difference in composition and consistency.

Italy doens't have fast food? That is news to me.<BR><BR>Everywhere we went we saw small family owned shops serving Italian Fast Food. This consisted of very thin pizza with an amazing variety of toppings. They wrap it up in paper and you eat it as you walk down the street. <BR><BR>We saw all types of people doing this!

Italy has the best "fast food"! This term has such a stigma.<BR><BR>Anyway, Pizza Margarita with an Orangiata at the Piazza di Pantheon in the heart of Rome.<BR><BR>Good distiction between Gelato and ice cream! Gelato is made of whole milk and lots of egg yolks.<BR><BR>I love Bacio Bianco with lots of panna.

Re: Randy's comment about using the word "Gelato."<BR><BR>I have to agree. "Gelato" translates to "Frozen", the past participle of Gelare - to freeze. Gelato in Italy ranges from the delicious kind everyone pictures, to the prepackaged freezer case ice cream sandwich at the corner store. It's all "Gelato" and it all means "Ice Cream" in English : )

The panini in the Chianti region - simply fresh bread, mozzarella, tomato and lettuce. I don't know why it tastes so good but I could have lived on it!
