Fashion show possibilities in Paris in March

We have had a glitch tossed into our planning. We (36 high school students from Canada and 4 mostly grown-up chaperones) are scheduled to arrive in Paris for 4 days on March 7. The Galeries Lafayette fashion show was on our itinerary for the Monday, but they now present on Friday afternoon, the same day we arrive, (1:30 p.m. at CDG) - and we just can't make it.

The girls (and female chaperones) are distressed they will miss their chance to witness a real Parisienne fashion show. Can anyone suggest something similar that would be available to a school group such as ours? We are in Paris until Tuesday morning. I can provide further information if needed.

The other department store is Printemps located next to Galleries Lafayette on Hausmann.
While reservations are not required
you might want to email:
[email protected] as there is
conflicting info on their Tuesday
fashion shows; either at 10 or 10:30 a.m. This may also conflict w/your Tuesday Paris departure.
Good luck w/your findings.

Double check on the Printemps. When we were there in June, they said they had stopped the shows and did not plan on starting them up again. That would be great if they did though!

Thanks for that info, mms. I was hoping to take my 12-year-old to a Printemps fashion show in May, as the GL show wouldn't fit our schedule.

If you are looking for something fashion oriented, here are a few things to check out...
Christian Lacroix has a beautiful exhibit at the Musée des Arts Decoratifs at the Louvre, there is always something interesting at the Fondation Yves St Laurent on Avenue Marceau, and there is also the Palais Galliera, which is a fashion museum.

Thanks, Melissa, I'll look into those options.

Great response. I believe the Printemps show is not available any more. I do have a lead at the Parsons School of Fashion Design. Does anyone have knowledge of Parsons? Thanks melissa_s for your great ideas.

Hi

Sorry to hear about the glitch. Hope that it works out so that you can get to view a fashion show :d My wife and I went to Paris a couple of year back. Here is my trip report with pictures and linsk http://gardkarlsen.com/Paris_France.htm and I have also made this interactive Google map that shows where some of the attractions are located http://gardkarlsen.com/paris_france_map.htm . Hope that you can find some useful information in the trip report :d

Just found out that Printemps no longer offers a fashion show. Thanks everyone for helping out. Any other suggestions?

Well, we are back from our wonderful time in France and Spain and I would like to close off the threads I started to let everyone know what happened. A more complete trip report will follow.

There were no fashion shows available to us. We went to the Parson School of Fashion Design for a one hour tour. The school was very helpful and showed us various studios wherein students were working on computers, sculpting, cutting cloth etc. It didn't really meet our expectations for the "fashion industry" in Paris - but that was not their fault. This connection was through our travel professionals who offered this as a substitute for the missed fashion show. If our students were more "fashion-oriented", the hour would have been more valuable. I would only recommend visiting Parson's if you had an in-depth desire for a tour of a school where fashion was taught.
