Farnum & Christ

Hello all and Happy New Year! Has anyone had any experience with this company in the last few years? I understand ownership changed hands a few years ago but I’m not finding much current feedback. The property I’m looking at is in South Kensington on Canning Passage and appears to be in a great location. If anyone has any feedback regarding location that would be great too! Thank you!

I haven't used them for years but they at least used to be excellent (and handle fairly high end properties). Canning Passage is a lovely/quiet street -- though it would be a bit of a hike to a tube station being almost equidistant from Earls Court, High Street Kensington and Gloucester Road

Kmalle, just found your thread. Did you end up staying with this group?

Does anyone know how Floral Street in Covent Garden is? We are looking at their apartment there.

Thank you in advance!

I haven't stayed in that flat -- Floral Street could not be more central. Fabulous area. It isn't entirely vehicle-free but is essentially pedestrianized. Lots of shops, pubs and restaurants on the street and close by. If its the one I recall, I believe its on the 2nd floor -- which is '3rd floor American'. So if climbing 3 flights of stairs multiple times per day would be an issue, be sure to verify if there is a lift.

The stage door of the Royal Opera House is on Floral Street, so who knows what stars you might bump into!

Great group!

Irice I did use them and they could not have been more fantastic! Top notch! Highly recommend. Laura is wonderful!

Good to know! Thanks guys! Their Covent Garden apartment is cute; I worry about it being in a super commercial street and neighborhood but it's close to Lincoln Inn's Fields area where we are visiting family. And ... all of London is busy! Especially at Christmas. :)

I’ve used them many times over the past 10 years and will be using them again twice this year. The new “owner” was actually a client of Lisa and Anne which is so nice to hear! Laura has been amazing so far.

I’ve stayed at the Floral St flat and it’s a great location. No lift though so be prepared to take your cases up a flight of stairs. There are big beautiful windows in the main room but the bathrooms weren’t very modern.

I’ve stayed at Vicarage Gate and Elm Park Gardens also. Both excellent quality flats.

In most cases the flat keys are sent via courier before you leave so you have immediate access to the flat upon arrival - this is a nice touch that I appreciate about this agency.

Didn’t realise this was an old thread! LOL. Oh well…good info to update anyway!

No worries kmowatt! I brought it back up versus start a new thread about the company. Do you recall where on Floral the flat is located?

I keep reading that Covent Garden is a zoo and am a bit worried it is going to feel like Times Square or Fisherman's Wharf. Especially at Christmas. Any thoughts anyone?

I’ve never been there at Xmas but that street has lots of stores so there will be lots of foot traffic. Someone actually has stayed there in this thread so maybe you can ask about night noise. We were at seven dials Raddison Blu in May 2023 and it was pretty quiet at night and same with Hoxton Holborn. Most hotel rooms are pretty soundproof.

I love the Radisson at Seven Dials but it is “3-4 dinners” more expensive. How were the rooms compared to the Hoxton?

I don’t have memory of our actual room but it was decent and I think quiet. Hoxton has different size rooms for different prices and used to be quite a deal. Prices have gone up though. Radisson lobby was quiet and a nice place to get a drink and close to some of our favorite restaurants (Barrafina, Barbary) and as I’ve said, Hoxton lobby was constantly very busy and full of people on their computers hunkered down for awhile. That may have changed since we haven’t stayed there since 2019.

De Vere cottage

We have used Farnum & Christ for more than 30 years and think they are top notch. Laura, the new owner, has not missed a beat, and is actively seeking new properties. Regarding the De Vere cottage rental in Canning Passage, we just completed a 7 night stay with our daughter and 2 grandkids. and it was a perfect setup. The kitchen is well equipped, we were able to do laundry with full size washer and dryer. We have stayed in several of F&C's properties, and this was one of our favorites. It's true that the tube stations are a bit of a hike, but there are nearby busses that run nearby. It's a very quiet street in a great neighborhood.
