As the other posters have (rather abruptly) said - there are many options and agritourismo is very well established in Italy. It is also well regulated, so in most cases you should get good quality accommodation on registered farms that have been in business for some time (you can't just buy a farm and declare yourself an agritourismo).

I suggest you chose an agritourismo that is also a winemaker/vineyard - that way you will have a built in wine tour without the need to drive. Hopefuly your hosts will also be better than any e-guide on assisting you with what to see and do in the local area.

Good luck.

About the guide I suggest you this
http://www.iteredizioni.it/display.p...0TOSCANA&pid=1

Karl,
I have a large file of things to do in Tuscany. It is too big to post. E-mail me and I will send it to you.

We tried a number of agriturismo when in Italy, KVF, and even if you don't end up staying at one, DO book a Sunday lunch: it can be a glorious 10-course experience. I won't bother to pass on particulars because our experiences with agriturismo were in the Abruzzo, Puglia (where they are often called 'masseria') and Le Marche.

Good luck!

Three very nice places that I know are Podere Vignali near the medieval village of Pari (http://www.poderevignali.it), Fattoria Nuova Pievanella (http://www.pievanella.com) and and Il Passo degli Ulivi (http://www.ilpassodegliulivi.it) if you prefer apartments.

go to Montepulciano and you'll enjoy free wine tasting and tours almost everywhere

I'd rent a self catering villa at a lower price at http://www.summerinitaly.com/eng/rent/area5!italy_.htm

otherwise I'd suggest http://www.borgodolciano.it/farm_hol...cany/index.php splendid farm accommodation!
