FamousUncleArt and little Art go on a Uniworld Rhine Holiday cruise

My Dad and I went on a Uniworld Rhine Cruise last November. We had a wonderful trip, unfortunately Art wasn’t up to writing a trip report. He has started to load pictures but doesn’t have the motivation to finish. I figured if I posted this it would give him the impetus to complete uploading his photos.

Uniworld treated us like royalty; I would highly recommend a trip with them. I am not the writer my Dad is but I would be happy to fill you in on our trip.

Oh, I love FamousUncleArt! I'm so happy to see this. I remember you mentioning the cruise. Please tell us more! I'm going to look at the pictures now and hope for more.

Could you make one small change? The city in Germany is Frankfurt, with a "u", not an "o", as that would then be in Kentucky.
thanks!

Mainhattengirl - I changed it - My Dad is almost 83 so he makes some mistakes. I saw that since I used to work for a large bank headquartered in Frankfurt but he hates when I change his work.

I know get Mainhatten - I loved Germany as I had on my previous trip. Whenever I was lost people would come and help me!

Well, I have lived here for over 20 years and my family still writes Frankfort occasionally. They still ask me what time it is here too and if we are ahead or behind Ohio time.

You didn't need to change the name if your dad doesn't like you to change his stuff. I had no idea, just thought someone didn't know, as people write it like that all the time on various travel forums. It wasn't that big of a deal.

Hope you get to come visit us again soon!

It sounds as though you had a wonderful trip!
Just a question: I looked up Uniworld on Cruise Critic and read this:
"Cruises directed toward younger spectrum. . ."

Can you comment on this? Thank you.

Grandmere The cruise had a range of ages 30 - 80 - mostly late 40s early 50's. The people seemed higher income. WE looked like the poor relations!

I wonder if the "younger spectrum" simply means not limited to the less-mobile and more geriatric? We are early 60's and loved this same Uniworld Rhine Cruise in October, and would say some 40s, lots of 50s and 60s, some older still.

It does help to be able to keep up with the terrific daily walking tours (again, a reason to say "younger spectrum" - each day, they offer a slower-paced group (usually there 3 to 4 tour guides/groups) I know in our sailing there was one lady having to use a walker, and i guess she considered it physical therapy to be pushed speed wise, but I have to say it was a bit aggravating to have to listen to her yelling to "slow down!" periodically. (we quickly learned to avoid her in a group, and also one lovely older lady who really poured on the perfume each day...)
We really were amazed by the beauty of sailing on the Rhine and Mosel - the castles, the vineyards, the small towns - and by the wonderful history and food experienced each day on shore.
Sorry to hijack but wanted to add seconds to this good review!

Thanks for the info, yeadonite and jo_ann!
We've never done any kind of cruise, and whereas an ocean cruise does not sound like much fun at all, the river ones are enticing. So, I'm eager to hear about the different cruise lines, such as Uniworld, Grand Circle, Viking, etc.

Grandmere,

Did you see my trip report from Dec. 2005 for the Grand Circle Danube Christmas cruise? A great way to travel!

Yes, I did, Underhill, and it was helpful and informative; hard to believe it's been so long ago! Only problem I have with GC cruises is that, except for the Christmas cruises, all the Danube ones are longer than I prefer.

Sorry for hijacking, also!

Nine days does sound perfect; 14 is a long time to be on a boat!

First cruise was with Uniworld several years ago and it was fantastic......both the choice of cruise line and the scenic journey along the Rhine on hot summer days glancing at the romantic castles and stopping every now and then at some small little Hamlet for refreshment and some sightseeing.
Have been back several times since.

yeadonite-cruised first time from Basel to Amsterdam, then did a Tulip Time cruise got drunk during this trip and don't remember much flat land and really not my cup of tea and also did a Xmas market cruise from Cologne to Nuremberg. Great at Xmas along the Rhine gluhwein coming out your ears.
Live in UK so Paris for me is a couple of hours away on Eurostar.Next river cruise could be Danube for me.

Thanks crdtny - my hunch is that the Christmas cruises are the most fun because everyone is in a great mood. I do love tulips but have visited the Netherlands and the gardens many times before. We are also thinking of the Danube = but still trying to pull it together.
