Too many streets too much history to cover. This is information that is best gotten from a good guide book. Fodors and others have books on just Paris. The books will tell you what they are famous for from history and what they are now known for.

Last month in Paris, I bought a 66-page booklet for 10 francs from someone peddling the things in a line at the Grand Palais. The title is Balade historique dans les rues de Paris. If you are going to Paris and you read French, you may enjoy it.

Sorry, but avoid the Champs-Elysées. Too crowded, too expensive. Go to the Rue du Cherche-Midi (6th), small adorable shops. Stroll around Place Saint-Sulpice (fashion, house), Rue de Tournon (galeries), and don't miss Place des Vosgses (4th)- just a most beautiful square with nice bistrots.Go to the covered charming galeries, like Galerie Vivienne (by rainy weather). Nice trip to you!!
