Family Week in Switzerland

Hello travel helpers:

We are planning a week in Switzerland in July before we head to Malta for a week. Flying into Zurich and out of Milan. Our kids will be 14, 12, and 6 at the time of the trip. Would like to end the trip with the Bernina express from St Moritz and maybe spend a day in Milan. We are really struggling with our itinerary. Current thought:

Day 1 - Head right to Lucerne once we land in Zurich and spend a couple days there
Travel go Grindelwald and spend a couple days there
Travel to St moritz
Take Bernina express to Milan

Any thoughts on this itinerary? Missing anything major?

The OP mentions July

You cannot do all that in 1 week.
The journey from Grindelwald to St. Moritz takes a whole day.

Either back to Zurich and then to Chur - St. Moritz, most of the trip through the boring midlands, for example
Grindelwald dp 10.17 - Zurich dp 13.38 . - St. Moritz ar 17.00
or along a scenic itinerary through the Alps, for example
Grindelwald dp 7.17 - Meiringen dp 8.50 by Postbus via Stein Glacier - Susten Pass to Andermatt and by Glacier Express to St. Moritz ar 16.37

Same remark for St. Moritz to Milan Malpensa airport by Benina Express:
St. Moritz dp 9.17 - Tirano ar 11.32, dp 12.08 - Milano C ar 14.40, dp 14.55 - MXP ar 15.46
Pontresina dp 10.25 - Tirano ar 12.49,, dp 13.08 ,.....- MXP ar 16.46

The kids will get bored of the train after a few hours. Go to Grindelwald first and then to Lucerne. After that, continue by train to Milano. If you want to spend the night along the way, consider Locarno or Ascona. Those two are my favourite areas in Tessin, followed by Bellinzona and Lugano.

No to St-Moritz. We were warned not to go there and were so glad we listened to that advice! Nearby Pontresina is charming, offers lots of hotel and dining choices.
