Family trip to Spain in April

We will be visting family in Pamplona for 8 days with our active 8 year old son. What Cities and sights or activiteies in the Northwest Spain should be on our must to do and see list.

What does you host family recommends or plans for your visit? They may already have some plans and 8 days is not a lot of time to explore northwest Spain with an 8 y/o. Pamplona has a very nice planetarium and nature parks. Check out
Senorio de Beraiz Park and Senda Viva http://www.sendaviva.com/index.asp

Biarritz and Pau in nearby France are nice. I wasn't greatly impressed with San Sebastian and Bilbao, on the coast of northern Spain. Pamplona seemed rather grey and bland to me, surrounded by nice countryside.

Dear wpshun:

Here is a link to our trip report:

http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34828166

Warning: It is very long & boring!!! Our daughter is 13, and it wasn't a really fun trip for her(hanging around with old people!!). But she enjoyed the shopping in Pamplona, meeting family. We also enjoyed San Sebastian for the beach, shopping and food. We also like the Chilleda out door museum outside of SS.

Good luck and I hope our report is helpful.

Thanks for the input. We wil be staying in a small town out side of Pamplona. Would you suggest or does anyone have experence flying with an 8 year old boy. If we have a choice , is it easier to fly a non stop to Europe from SFO or have a connecting.

Dear wpshun:

I have a flying rule: only one stop or non-stop.

In the past, we have flown SFO non-stop to Frankfurt or Munich, then on to our final destination. These flights usually leave SFO later in the day or evening. I much prefer this, since you can settle in to sleep etc.

This past trip to Spain, we flew from Sacramento - Atlanta - BCN, with a 6 hr. layover in Atlanta(we live near Sacramento) I will not do this again. Too long of a trip. Will only do SFO to Europe in the future. Check out Luftansa for flights.

I have never flown with an 8 year old boy. Just bring travel games, etc.

Where near Pamplona are you staying?? We hope to return someday soon.
