Family Trip to London
 

We are planning a trip to London in Sep 05 with our two children (7yrs & 5yrs) We need all the advice! Apartment or Hotel Accommodation (we will be there 4 nights) and what tourist attractions should we prioritise.

Depends on what rings the bells for the family. Is it history, art, adventure, shopping ?

I think the kids would like the Tower of London regardless. County Hall Travel Inn is often recommended for families. If you choose that hotel, you'd be right next to the London Aquarium. I've never been to either that hotel or the aquarium, but quite likely kids would like it. Depending on the kids, they might like the Imperial War Museum and the British Museum also. No doubt the London Eye would appeal too.

I believe a poster here has a file relating to London and children. Do a search for that.

Our kids first went to London when they were 6 and 7, and loved it!
We found an apartment on our latest trip through the BA website. It was actually more of an efficiency and tiny, but having kitchen facilities was very handy.

Most museums are under a lot of pressure to welcome children of all ages with discovery/play activities and so on. Some are more suited to it than others, but for example, if they're at the dinosaur stage, the Natural History Museum might appeal. The Science Museum has lots of things to discover and play with. The Victoria and Albert has had some favourable comment too. And they're all free and close together.

Plenty of parks and playgrounds to run around in.

How about a trip to Greenwich - one way by boat, the other way by driverless railway (possibility of sitting at the front and 'driving'). Likewise, at that age a trip at the front on top of a double-decker bus could be the thing..?

If you need "all the advice" and aren't yet sure which attractions you want to see then you really need to do some basic research first. People here are great to help with specific details, but there are plenty of good resource already in existence for the basics. Fodors, right here at this web site, has info about London if you click up top where it says "destinations". Also, go to your library or bookstore and get 2-3 good guidebooks on London to help you figure out what is there and what you'd like to see.

Finally, if you want hotel info please specify a budget. Some want only the basics at a rock-bottom price and others won't be happy unless it's the Ritz. There's a wide variety in between, but giving options well below or above your budget definitely won't help you out any! :)

You might look for Kids' London published by Dorling Kindersley. It has lots of colored pictures, maps and quizzes.
