Family of four needs lodging in Rome
 

My wife and I along with our 2 college aged children (boy and girl) will be in Rome for four nights in June. We are looking to stay near the center of the city. Two hotel rooms appear quite pricey. Any suggestions on an apartment?

If you are open to convents, try Fraterna Duomo. They have quads, are close to Piazza Novona, and generally have good reviews on this forum

When we went with our children, we stayed at the Hotel Miami. It is not smack dab in the center of things, but we were able to walk everywhere without a problem. The kids were 5 and 8 then, and the walking was not an issue. Anyway, we had a quad room that had a queen bed in one area, separated with a wall from the other area that had two twin beds. The room was plenty big, and the bathroom was large as well. The staff was very nice and quite helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

My family of 5 stayed in an apartment near the Vatican. It has 2 separate bedrooms and a bath with shower, and a small refrigerator. There were 2 separate, well-functioning air conditioners... a rarity in Rome. We paid 600 Euros for 5 nights. I'd definitely stay there again. Do a google search for "independent apartment properzio rome". Properzio is the name of the street on which the apartment is located.

We stayed in Rome at an apartment and the agency we used was www.sleepinitaly.com. We found them very helpful. They speak perfect English and are very good as responding to questions. You might want to try them out.

We stayed in a quad at Santa Chiara a few years ago. It was great and the location is the best! Very central, just behind the Pantheon. I don't remember how much it cost, but it was reasonable. Santa Chiara is one of Fodor's favorites so you can easily get more info. According to Venere a quad is about 230 Euro. We also stayed in a quad a santa chiara. The one we had was a 2 room suite with one bathroom. The location is great, and the breakfast excellent.

We are doing a similar thing and so far the apartment rentals all appear to be a week minimum.

We took our 2 daughters (then 9 & 7) to Rome last June and stayed in the Hotel San Carlo, (room 77 to be exact), after reading many positive posts here. It was a top floor room & no elevator. The room was incredible! We had a large room, modern bathroom & an upstairs loft with 2 twin beds & a tv. Perhaps the best part was the rooftop terrace where we enjoyed late afternoons before dinner, or dined al fresco at breakfast! Located near the Spanish Steps, upscale shopping, a metro station & more. The hotel staff was extremely helpful too.

our family is going to stay at the hotel alimandi vaticano in a quad room for 240 /night in may. the reviews look very good and they have a free shuttle bus to the airport which saves some money as well good luck!

I would suggest for the "center of the city" look into Palazzo Olivia. Right around the corner is the Piazza Navona/Pantheon area. The have the size rooms you are looking for. They rent as minimal as 3 nights.
Hotel Alimandi unfortunatly is not in the "center" of the city.It is a bit out of the way in my opinion.I cannot deny it was a pleasant place to stay with fresh american style breakfast.Great for your last night before heading out.

Residenza Canali has a quad room which is actually 2 sperate rooms and is just a block from the Piazza Novona

We also stayed at Palazzo Olivia - great location and reasonable price.

Here's the link for Palazzo Olivia. You are in luck as they only require a four day minimum. We stayed there this past summer as well and loved it. I can even let you know how to take the bus from Termini to just outside the door -- to save even more.

Could I ask for a little more information about Palazzo Olivia? I have made reservations at albergo del senato by the pantheon but we will be in Rome for 9 nights and I am considering renting an apartment. Are the prices quoted the final cost or will there be other costs involved after our stay? Is the bus the preferred mode of transportation from this area? Thank you for any information.

We contacted Palazzo for June and all they had was a one bedroom for 185€ per night - all included.

You might try contacting Hotel Campo de-Fiori. We love the area even though we know it can be rather noisy. Stayed at the hotel several years ago. This year we have rented an apartment from the Hotel owners which is also located on the Piazza Campo de'Fiori. Our stay is in late March for two nights; don't know if they allow stays of less than one week during the summer. The March rate is 200 euros and it is described as one double bedroom, plus one living room with two additional beds; one bathroom and a kitchen. Breakfast is included at the Hotel. We know from experience this will be a very small breakfast. No air conditioning. Not a problem in March, but likely would be in June. About 3 years ago we rented a quad room (we are also a family of four) near the Vatican. Didn't like the location as well although it was less noisy.
