Maybe three hours each way? Both the train and the ferry trips were under an hour, but there was waiting time. We may have stopped to provision ourselves with a picnic lunch in Salerno. It was a full day’s excursion.

Just weighing in to say if flying in or out of Naples you can take this direct coach from Naples airport to Sorrento train station. (or vice versa), I think it is 10 euro per person, way less fuss than getting the train from Naples to Sorrento or back. If you have decided not to stay in Sorrento you could have a driver or taxi take you from Sorrento to whichever town you choose.
Personally I thought Sorrento was very scenic, our room had a view looking straight out into the Bay of Naples and you could see Naples in the distance plus Vesuvius. It's a nice flat town, but set up high on the cliffs with lots of restaurants etc and you can take a ferry from there to Capri and other places.
I would not stay in Positano with little kids and a grandparent, it is all hills and stairs, you have to be half mountain goat to stay there! Very pretty to see it from the sea, arrive by ferry, climb a few levels up, shop, have lunch, leave.

Ravello is lovely and yes, the views are the best. Locals call it the balcony of the world. However unless you have a car to ferry you all up and down it would be a hassle having to depend on the bus all the time.
We enjoyed Paestum more than Pompeii quite frankly and Pompeii can be very hot with no shade.
We did stay also in Minori which has a nice beach and I think there are apartments available there and also in Maiori.

How would you compare Minori and Amalfi? Would Minori be "too quiet" or "inconvenient"?

Minori is about 18 minutes away from Amalfi by bus or 11 mins by car according to Google maps. We had a car when we stayed in Minori and it was a short car ride away.
Minori is more of a local town so less expensive and less crowded than Amalfi. It also has a nice long sandy beach which your kids might like. It's certainly not inconvenient and as for quiet, both towns are small so no rip roaring night life will be happening there but plenty of restaurants etc in both places.
You could still do Pompeii by going to Sorrento and taking the train from there if you think your children would enjoy it but have hats and lots of hydration.

I see Minori also has a port and ferry options to Amalfi, so that might not be too bad! Seems like ferries run pretty frequently and is like €5 per person each way.
Although I suppose ferry is more affected by weather.
If the price difference is big enough I might consider staying in Minori then :)

Hello everyone I'm back again seeking more guidance!

The hotels have been booked and we are all very excited!

I need help on the best option to go from Naples airport -> Amalfi (we are staying at an Airbnb in Atrani).
Private car (€150) vs Naples ferry?

I think private car will be most convenient however I am prone to car sickness and a bit scared about the journey to Amalfi... Am I overthinking this?

Ferry will likely be slightly more expensive but hopefully more relaxing? But it comes at the cost of the hassle of going to the port from Naples airport.
