family of 4, paris and london hotels
 

I am planning a vacation to London and Paris with my husband and two children. Does anyone have recommendations for hotels where we can find a room that will fit all of us? (My children would not feel comfortable in their own room if it wasn't at least connected while we are travelling). I am looking for a two or three star. Thanks for your advice!

In Paris, our family of four stayed at Hotel du Danube on Rue Jacob. The location can't be beat. I don't remember what we paid but I do remember that it was less expensive than a lot of the options I was looking at. We had two connected rooms and one bathroom. Good Luck!

In Paris we stayed in a suite at the Grand Hotel St. Michel (3*). The hotel in general was fine, clean, good location, etc. The suite was tiny. Barely room to walk around. The kids had day beds in one room and we had a double bed. We faced a courtyard, so it was very quiet (no street noise at all), but no view to speak of.

We were in London last year. Let me warn you that it is very pricey. We stayed in 2 interconnected rooms (one double and 1 twin) at the Cranley Gardens hotel (3*) in So. Kensington. Again, these rooms very small and the bathrooms tiny (but at least there were 2 of them). The hotel is in a great neighborhood.

I know there are others i've seen mentioned on this site. Try doing text searches on 'london quad' and 'paris quad'.

Me, my wife and two teenage children made a similar trip in June 2004. We shared a quad room in London at the Swiss House Hotel in South Kensington (http://www.swiss-hh.demon.co.uk/). Nice room with one double bed and two singles. Because the room faced busy Old Brompton Road, it was a bit noisy, but we managed. I recall paying about 243 Pounds a night. Nice location with closest Underground at Gloucester Street about four blocks away.

In Paris we had an adjoining suite at the Hotel de Fleurie in Saint Germain des Prés in the 6th arr. (http://www.parisby.com/fleurie/). Suite is comprised of two bedrooms joined by a small connecting hallway with a single door connecting both rooms to the outer hallway. Very private and quite comfortable. Great neighborhood near Rue de Buci shops, stores and market. Odeon metro just a block away. I recall spending Euro 325 a night.

Neither hotel was inexpensive, but we enjoyed our stays at both.

In London especially (where hotels of the same quality tend to be more expensive) I would very definitely recommend you rent an apartment instead. A 2-bedroom flat or a 1-bdrm w/ a sofa sleeper will give you much more space plus a full kitchen w/ washer/dryer usually for less than a quad hotel room and almost always cheaper than 2 double rooms.

..would echo the above for Paris...The american hotels usually have large rooms with 2 double beds...this is very much the exception in Paris..look into the apt option though many have a one week minimum..many threads on the board about apts.
