Dolomites Hut to Hut with Kids
Hi Francewithfive! I am replying to one of your old posts about a hut to hut hike you were planning for your family in the Dolomites. I am am looking for the exact same thing (a two night hut to hut hike) with my family of four and would love to know if you ended up doing this and what advice you might have to share. We have visited Ortisei a few times and stayed in town while doing day hikes but would like to do a hut to hut adventure this year. My twins are 11 and not the most athletic kiddos but I will drag them if I have to!
(Also, I noticed from your "bio" that one of your favorite destinations is Rome. I haven't been in a while and this will be my first time with children so if you have any must dos there, I'd love your thoughts.)
Thank you!

We didn’t end up doing hut to hut for two main reasons. The first was we didn’t think our youngest would really enjoy a longer distance hike and wouldn’t be able to cover enough ground to make it worth it. Secondly, we were concerned about the unpredictable weather with three kids in the mountains. If you get great weather, it’s amazing. If it pours rain and is cold and windy, its really NOT great. We decided to stay the night at Col Pradat instead so we could have the mountain top experience but not be committed to hiking to the next lodge. We hiked around the lodge and it was fantastic. Gorgeous trails and lots of places to go. It was the perfect decision for us. You can see details in my post above.
