Family Chalet or Apartment Rental in Switzerland
We are a family of 4 (two young children) looking for a nice, comfortable home, chalet, apartment or something like that to rent for one or two weeks this July. We can afford something nice (I hope). We have friends near Zug (between Lucerne & Zurich) so could stay near there or elsewhere of interest (perhaps we will break it into two one week stays). We love good food (and wine), interesting villages and of course zoos etc. for kids. My friends will help with planning but I would love to get some hints especially on places to stay from you all. Thanks very much.

I would try Untours - this is a great company that sets you up in apts for 2 weeks. They meet you at the airport and take you to your apt, provide a list of events in your area while you are there (special events etc.) and will give you tips on things to do with kids. And a good portion of your payment goes to charity.
I believe they have apts not far from Lucerne. Check www.untours.com. We had an apt with them in Goldern - a little hard to get to and far from Lucerne, but great for hiking. Very fine company.
Another site is drawbridgetoeurope.com. They have several apts in Switzerland - not sure if they have any in the vicinity you are seeking. They rent out for shorter periods in case you want to stay less than 2 weeks in one place.
We will be staying in an apt/chalet in Kandersteg for 10 days this June. We found it independently thru the Kandersteg website.
An apt is definitely the way to go. I'd say especially with kids, but my husband and I are now hooked on it and will probably continue to stay in apts whenever possible, even after our son is grown.

Conny, I will also vouch for Untours. We have booked an apartment in Sachseln, a thirty minute train ride from Lucerne, for September, 2004.
If they have an apartment available I am sure you will be happy with Untours. This company has many repeat customers
( including me.)

I always made good experiences with Interhome. www.interhome.com
In case you speak some German you might want to try REKA, a Swiss company which owns "family villages" as well as apartments. www.reka.ch They prefer to rent to families, especially in holiday (peak) seasons. As far as I know they offer excellent properties for rent in Meiringen-Hasliberg and Lenk e.g.
