false warning:Crillon Le Brave

Crillon le Brave was mention by a poster named Amanda to stay away because of crime. I have investigated and found unfounded accusations. The BMW she said was torched outside the hotel. Not true. Some young people from Capentras, stole this car and burned it just OUTSIDE Crillon. To advise people to stay away because of a few break and enter auto incidents is not enough reason
to tell people to stay away from this beautiful village. It was Irrisponsible!
Christina Jul 30th, 2002 09:51 AM

I know you have a particular fondness for promoting that hotel (I am not implying you work for them, just that you do seem to push it beyond just saying you liked it and recommend it), and while perhaps that post could have been more informative and clearer--apparently it was not entirely false from what you say. A car WAS torched outside the hotel, wasn't it? Given how small that village is, I don't see the distinction you are trying to make between outside Crillon vs outside the hotel. I forget the rest of the post, but I wouldn't be that crazy about staying in a spot known for auto-theft and car-torching by local hoodlums in front of a luxury hotel. Perhaps it was written in too alarming a manner and did not give enough facts, but I think people can decide for themselves and it isn't really appropriate for you to tell people that was entirely unfounded and "irrisponsible" and that it isn't enough reason for someone to advise that. It WAS enough reason for her and might be for someone else, also--that is a subjective opinion, not a fact. I think in order to know such an arcane piece of news, she must live in that area and was probably rather upset about the situation, that's my guess. I'm sure she had no commercial motive in making that post.

If I wanted to stay in that area, I would decide for myself and would not let that singular incident persuade me one way or another, but it seems you are also suggesting more than that one incident, that there have been more break and enter incidents to cars in that area. For such a small rural village, I do find that surprising and suspect it may be because of that luxury hotel being there.

On the same subject, I find this penchant for burning cars in France within the last year or so something disturbing and wonder why this element of French society has taken to that particular form of crime (I know there have been car burning in Paris suburbs, also).

I might agree with you, except I always tend to take exception to people who don't just advise people of the full facts, which you could have done, but tell them what to think and make the decision as to what someone else should think or feel.

Christina I said OUTSIDE Crillon the village not the Hotel (there is more than one hotel in Crillon and a few bed and breakfasts. You are reading too much into it and I resent your inferences. I dont tell anyone what to do but don,t want false fears. If a car is burned in the next village to you, you wouldn't say it was in your village.

Christina, why do you always sound like you have a chip on your shoulder? There's always this nagging tone to everything you write. Lighten up already!

If we didn't already notice the other post and know about this car torching incident in or near this place, we know it now. This second thread sure has drawn attention to the incident.

Sorry Mimi (also of that obnoxious-pat-on-your-back-and-who's-who-around France Francophile forum), but I agree with Christina. I also know that this particular establishment is your utmost favorite hotel (you've been touting it for years!!) but the tone in your thread seems to suggest that you are TELLING people what to DO and THINK!!

Oh is mimi the cigalechanta from Boston who likes to BRAG about the expensive restaurants she has eaten around France and the Relais & Chateau establishements and 5-star hotels or B&B's that she has stayed in??? I asked because I once asked for a reasonable budget restaurant to eat in Paris and she said that she has eaten at this xxx restaurant BUT it is very expensive. Go figure why she even bothered to answer.

I am always touting hotels that I have stayed in and love whenever someone on here asks about a Paris hotel. Why should Mimi be any different?
Personally,I find these hysterical alarms posted here about some crime in some town in Europe annoying. Unless the poster actually had a crime committed against her/him,then stop posting these shrill warnings! In NYC there are cars robbed, people mugged, sometimes someone gets shot..should we post shrill threads of "Stay away from NYC"?
If I want to hear about crime in Europe,I will read the Times.
And like the game Gossip-these accounts are never accurate here.
JMHO

lighten up with no name. Crillon is Not my favorite but one of the ones I share with posters and any disagreement that Christina and I may have, you are using as an excuse to knock others. I belong to three other francophile communities.
And I am booked not in Crillon but a few of my other favorites. I love Provence and that's all what my posting is about.
